Have you ever interviewed a candidate and had an instant connection?
In this clip from The @frontlineindustrypodcast, Scott Springer, President of Chelwood Consulting Group, gives a personal example of how he fell into the trap of affinity, or "Just Like Me" bias during an interview. Unfortunately, the friendly view caused by affinity bias may cause you to skim over answers, miss red flags or justify a candidate’s weak answers.
Interviewing as a team and considering others' observations helped him achieve a more balanced assessment in future interviews.

    Think about the law before you are going to harrass some one. Those people who are harassing someone are not thinking about the law. I, when I am going to do some things. I think first.

    This only works if the employer takes a similar philosophy towards their employees otherwise, it sounds like a bad joke.

    My experience was never with a caring concerned coach or manager. Always full of some agenda or judgement. Great way she handled it. She got way more out of the employee like that . Very nice.

      I think the bias part is that she expected Mr. Porter to speak in AAVE, which is often considered an inferior or improper form of English. While this could have been a genuine compliment, it’s also possible that this comment is like her saying she was surprised that he spoke in white English. I’m not an expert or anything, but this is what I took away from the clip (:

    • @ClementineKit
      @ClementineKit Рік тому

      Her saying that shows that she did not expect the gentleman to be so articulate. As if people of that race do not usually speak so well. That’s the problem.

    • @vishalgaikwadsr.964
      @vishalgaikwadsr.964 Рік тому

      @@ClementineKit I feel like that is what the creator of the video intended, however in this video I don't think she's implying that. She is just giving some genuine compliments albeit coming off a bit weird. I think videos like this will make people more scared to give genuine compliments than anything.

    • @ClementineKit
      @ClementineKit Рік тому

      @@vishalgaikwadsr.964 saying “you are so articulate” is a backhanded compliment. I wouldn’t say this to anyone because it’s pretty disrespectful.

    This may have worked in the 50's 60's 70's 80's 90's and 2000's but not anymore. People complain and ask "for the manager" to get whatever they want.

  • @jackquincey647
    @jackquincey647 Рік тому

    This is brine-shit! If we keep giving asshole customers anything and everything they want they get greedy for it and expect it every time and people all around them will notice and expect the same. It starts with "give 'em the pickle" then it will be "I got it for free last time, why not this time!?" Then they'll start to feel like they are the privileged pickled king and queen of the preserved castle of your business. Maybe this worked years ago but not anymore. Customers will take anything they can get for free and then some. If they want an "extra pickle" every time then they should pay for it and not complain. Be grateful for what you get and don't bitch if you don't get your "free extra pickle" Fucking pickleful!
